Utah Ice Fishing FAQ’s
-
Answer: We only take ice fishing trips out on the lakes and reservoir’s when the ice is at a minimum of 6 inches thick (six inches of ice can support the weight off a snowmobile or just over a thousand pounds). By mid-January most of the reservoirs are typically 12inch thick or more.
-
Answer: The conditions always vary on the ice so it just depends on the day. The best advice is to dress as if you are going skiing: water-proof hiking boots, warm socks, ski gloves, ski pants, layering for top and bottom, ski jacket, warm hat and sunglasses or ski goggles.

Answer: On our local ice fishing tour’s we guide on Echo Reservoir, Rockport Reservoir and East Canyon Reservoir. You can expect a drive time of 30 to 45 minutes from Park City, Utah. On our private accessed snow cat trips we fish on Strawberry Reservoir. Strawberry Reservoir is an hour drive from Park City.
-
Answer: On Echo and Rockport Reservoir we are primarily targeting perch which is a small pan fish that kids love catching. On both those reservoirs, we can also target big brown trout and rainbow trout ( we recommend the morning trips if trout is the desired fish on our local trips). Strawberry Reservoir offers the best trout ice fishing in the state. You can expect to catch Bonville Cutthroat Trout and Rainbow Trout.
-
Answer: Absolutely, depending on the regulations of the reservoir you’re fishing. If you do plan on keeping fish, we do recommend that you bring a plastic bag or small cooler to keep your fish in on your drive home.
